2013 Australian Taekwondo Festival and Nationals Entry Deadline Extended

Due to the 0.5 kg sparring weight allowance, It has come to our notice that contestants who have entered the Festival and/or Nationals may not be aware that if they are on the border line of their weight division, that they can enter either the lower or higher weight division, or both weight divisions if they wish to contest extra fights.

Contestants who do enter more than one weight division however must be aware of the following:

  • All events require that players not presenting themselves with their coaches after 3 calls will be disqualified. You must therefore ensure that you consult with your coach to ensure that you have sufficient coaches available for you to contest more than one weight division.
  • TAPS athletes can only receive points in a single weight division. This will be recorded as your best result of the two fights.

We are also aware that many TAPS athletes have also entered the Festival as a 'warm-up' for the following day's National Championships and TAPS events. This is permissible, with the exception of Cadet Divisions who will be contesting their TAPS event on the same day as the Festival.

Non-TAPS entrants who have entered divisions with 'Head Kicks' please note that the Tournament Director will review all divisions which have a mixture of Non-TAPS and TAPS contestants. In cases where there are TAPS contestants, you will be contacted and given the choice of either:

  • contesting the division as it stands, or;
  • where there is only one Non-TAPS contestant, this will be treated as you being the only contestant in your division and you can elect to be either a non contested player or move to the next weight division with a Non-TAPS player, or;
  • where there are two or more Non-TAPS contestants, you will all be placed in a separate division.

In other words, there is no impact on you competing because it will be your choice, but please consult your coach once you have been contacted.

Due to the above, the closing date for all entries has been extended to Wednesday, 18 September 2103.

Grading and the form.

HELLO Everyone,
Well grading is really just around the corner. Normally grading is done historically on the 1st Saturday of the school holidays but due to Taekwondo Queensland holding their selections that week end so we decided that the 13th July would suit us better, it gave everyone some extra time to bush up a little bit more.
So you have the date you have the form titled Grading form (coloured belts) 07 2013
and now the time,- registration and warm up for all white to Black belt 9.00 am sharpe and finish will be before 12 midday.
If anyone wants some last minute guidance we will be there at 8.30am.
All the best everyone.
Kwangjangnim (Wayne)
P.S. I will inform everyone Wednesday night 3/07/13 tonight for those who are reading this today, if they will indeed be grading, Stay tuned!

Weigh-in – conducted on SATURDAY between 1pm and 5pm – requests for Sunday weigh-in will be considered from athletes who reside more than 100km from the Brendale centre (according to Google Maps) and from those closer who may have a valid and verifiable reason for needing same – requests should be sent by email to info@tkdqld.com prior to 5pm Friday 21 June.

REFEREES – please confirm your attendance asap to referee@tkdqld.com

TAPS – POOMSAE

TA has advised that the Qld Championships event categories need to be adjusted for those who wish to accumulate TAPS points from this event in regard to POOMSAE.  TQ wishes to give everyone who wants to accumulate TAPS points the opportunity to do so.  TA policies on TAPS can be found for

POOMSAE - http://www.taekwondoaustralia.com.au/images/file_groups/159/taps_technical_policy_pol.005_v01.1.pdf

SPARRING – http://www.taekwondoaustralia.com.au/images/file_groups/159/taps_sparring_policy_pol.003_v01.1.pdf

TA Technical Committee have also advised that we are required to use the following divisions for TAPS Poomsae

Child – 5-8 years – born 2005 or later

Youth – 9-11 years – born 2002 – 2004

Cadet – 12-14 years – born 1999-2001

Junior – 15-17 years – born 1996 – 1998

Senior 1 – 18-29 years – born 1984-1995

Senior 2 – 30-30 years – born 1974-1983

Masters 2 – 50-59 years – born 1954-1963

Masters 3 – 60 years + - born 1953 or prior

TA has also advised the following:

Age divisions are in the table below but please note that TAPS points are currently awarded to divisions 15-17 and above.

The cadet division can currently be included in State TAPS events as a TAPS division, but as this division is new not yet in the policy and to create equal opportunity for all, points will not be counted until the National Championships.

Accordingly, TQ will be adjusting black belt (TAPS eligible) divisions to these age groups and will be adjusting the patterns performance requirements for anyone interested in TAPS accumulation.  More information will issue on this by Thursday evening on www.tkdqld.com .

SOCIAL – TQ has arranged a social for anyone who wishes to join us at the GARDEN LOUNGE at the Eatons Hill Hotel (The 'EH') adjacent to the complex.  The lounge area will be set aside for TQ from 6-9pm on Saturday and children and adults are able to gather in this outdoor area.  Food and drinks can be purchased through a range of the hotel facilities.
